Yeast and filamentous fungal fermentation
Cultivation and maintenance of brewer's yeast, koji, Monascus, and enzyme-producing fungi

THE SITUATION AND THE PAIN POINTS
Yeasts and fungi need different media from bacteria: a lower pH, a higher carbon fraction, and for filamentous fungi suitable sporulation conditions. Media for strain maintenance and nitrogen sources for production scale-up are again two different things.
OUR APPROACH
STBIO supplies standard fungal media such as YPD, malt extract, potato dextrose, and the Czapek range for strain maintenance and activation, plus malt, yeast, and soy peptones as nitrogen sources for production fermentation.
- YPD, malt, and potato dextrose ranges for activation and maintenance
- Czapek range for taxonomy and sporulation of Aspergillus and other filamentous fungi
- Malt and yeast peptones as production nitrogen sources

Frequently asked questions
01YPD or malt extract medium?
YPD is rich and fast-growing, the laboratory standard for yeast; malt extract medium is closer to a brewing environment and suits brewer's yeast or work where fermentation character matters.
