Sustained Nitrogen Supply & Secondary Metabolite Production Series
Controlled hydrolysis and peptide molecular-weight distribution provide sustained nitrogen release to support secondary metabolite production. For Streptomyces, actinomycetes, antibiotics and other bioactive compound fermentations.

ABOUT THIS SERIES
Antibiotics and most bioactive compounds are secondary metabolites: cells do not make them while nutrients are abundant, and only start once nitrogen becomes gradually limiting. By controlling the degree of hydrolysis and the peptide molecular-weight distribution, this series releases nitrogen more slowly and steadily, avoiding early overgrowth and bringing the culture into the state that favours secondary metabolism.
SUITABLE FOR
- Streptomyces and actinomycete fermentation
- Antibiotic production
- Other secondary metabolites and bioactive compounds
KEY POINTS
- Larger peptide molecular weights for slower nitrogen release
- Can be combined with a fast-acting nitrogen source to shape the release curve
- Suited to long fermentations

Frequently asked questions
01Will sustained nitrogen make early growth too slow?
It can, which is why most processes combine it with some fast-acting nitrogen: the fast fraction starts the culture and the sustained fraction carries it later. The ratio is adjusted per strain.
