Inactive yeast powder versus yeast extract
Inactive yeast powder is whole yeast cells inactivated by heat and dried, keeping the cell wall, protein, B vitamins and minerals without extraction or separation. Yeast extract is only the water-soluble fraction after autolysis. The former is nutritionally complete and lower in cost, used in fermented feed, biofertiliser and fermentations that need a slow nutrient release; the latter dissolves clear and is taken up quickly, for culture media and food.
