Semiconductor wastewater biotreatment: media and nitrogen sources for nitrifiers, TMAH degraders and sludge acclimation
Standard media and industrial nitrogen sources for culturing bioaugmentation strains and starting or re-seeding biological treatment tanks

THE SITUATION AND THE PAIN POINTS
Fab and panel-plant wastewater carries ammonia (from ammonia cleaning and CMP), TMAH (developer) and organics such as IPA. Chemical treatment of these is costly, so biological treatment is now common: nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria convert ammonia to nitrogen gas, dedicated strains degrade TMAH and activated sludge handles organics. Suppliers of bioaugmentation products must scale these strains up into powders or liquid cultures, and plants must re-acclimate and feed their biological tanks after start-up, tank turnover or shock loads. Both call for stable, traceable media and nitrogen sources priced for volume use.
OUR APPROACH
We supply two tiers of material. Standard media for scale-up and maintenance: Nutrient Broth, Nutrient Agar, Tryptic Soy Broth and Buffered Peptone Water, fixed formulations with a COA for every batch, suited to seed culture and QC of bioaugmentation products. Industrial nitrogen sources for tank feeding and large-vessel scale-up: bacteriological peptone, soy peptone, isolated soy protein, yeast extract and yeast peptone in 25 kg bulk packs with specified total and amino nitrogen, dosed by carbon-to-nitrogen ratio. R-2A Broth is also available for recovering and counting organisms from low-nutrient environments.
- Standard-formulation media for scale-up and QC, with a COA for every batch
- Industrial nitrogen sources in 25 kg bulk with specified total and amino nitrogen, dosed by C:N ratio
- Mainly plant- and yeast-derived, with animal-origin-free options
- Shipped from our Taiwan plant with stock on hand for urgent re-seeding

Frequently asked questions
01Which medium should be used to scale up nitrifiers?
Nitrifiers are autotrophs grown mainly on mineral media (ammonium salts, bicarbonate, trace elements). Our peptones and yeast extracts serve the accompanying heterotrophs and mixed-sludge acclimation, and the carrier and protectant formulations of bioaugmentation products. We can suggest a starting formulation; the ratio is tuned to your strain and process.
02Can general media be used for TMAH-degrading cultures?
Nutrient Broth or TSB can be used for seed culture and maintenance, with mineral medium containing TMAH introduced gradually during acclimation. The media themselves contain no TMAH; it must be added for acclimation.
03How is the nitrogen dose for a biological tank calculated?
Work out the nitrogen required from the influent COD and target C:N ratio, then convert to kilograms of peptone or yeast extract using the total-nitrogen percentage on the specification sheet. We can help calculate from your influent data.
