Overview
ISP Broth 6 is a broth (liquid) medium, part of the International Streptomyces Project (ISP) set for actinomycete taxonomy. It is ISP 6 peptone-yeast extract-iron formulation, used to read melanin production by Streptomyces. STBIO manufactures it from food-grade raw materials in an ISO 22000 certified facility, with a COA for every batch. This is the Halal-certified version.
Principle
The medium contains peptone, proteose peptone, and yeast extract as sources of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and B-complex vitamins. Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate provides buffering capacity to maintain a stable pH. Ferric ammonium citrate and sodium thiosulfate act as the indicator system for the detection of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) production.
The ISP range for actinomycetes
The ISP (International Streptomyces Project) range is the standard media set for the taxonomy of Streptomyces and other actinomycetes. Each number provides a different carbon and nitrogen combination for observing mycelial colour, soluble pigment, and sporulation. Taxonomic descriptions normally require several of the numbered media read together.
Directions
