Overview
ISP Broth 4 is a broth (liquid) medium, part of the International Streptomyces Project (ISP) set for actinomycete taxonomy. It is ISP 4 inorganic salts-starch formulation, used for taxonomic description and sporulation of Streptomyces. STBIO manufactures it from food-grade raw materials in an ISO 22000 certified facility, with a COA for every batch. This is the Halal-certified version.
Principle
Soluble starch is the carbon source, while inorganic salts and trace elements provide the minerals required for the growth of Streptomyces species. Calcium carbonate maintains the pH of the medium.
The ISP range for actinomycetes
The ISP (International Streptomyces Project) range is the standard media set for the taxonomy of Streptomyces and other actinomycetes. Each number provides a different carbon and nitrogen combination for observing mycelial colour, soluble pigment, and sporulation. Taxonomic descriptions normally require several of the numbered media read together.
Directions
Suspend 17.0 g of the powder in 1 L of purified water. Heat with continuous stirring and bring to the boil for 1 minute. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121 °C for 15 minutes. Test the finished medium for performance using stable, standard control cultures.
