Overview
AlgaPro™ M-Complete #1 is the complete medium of the AlgaPro range, combining carbon sources, nitrogen sources (the N-Core nitrogen composition), phosphate buffer, magnesium, calcium and sea salt in one formulation designed for Schizochytrium and other thraustochytrids and heterotrophic microalgae. Thraustochytrids are marine protists that need the sodium and minerals sea salt provides, and heterotrophic fermentation is sensitive to the C:N ratio and buffering capacity, so weighing out many separate raw materials invites batch-to-batch variation. M-Complete brings these variables into a single pack and suits seed culture, shake-flask screening and batch fermentation as the starting medium; once the growth phase is stable, L-Boost can be fed during the lipid phase. Formulated, quality-controlled and packed at STBIO's own facility in Xizhi, New Taipei, in 500 g, 5 kg and 25 kg packs. AlgaPro™ M-Complete #1 and AlgaPro™ M-Complete #2 are two versions of the same product; both can be sampled side by side to choose per strain and process.
How the three AlgaPro formulations fit together: choose by fermentation stage
AlgaPro divides the work by stage of heterotrophic fermentation. N-Core is the nitrogen core and sets how much biomass the growth phase builds; M-Complete is the complete medium, with carbon, nitrogen and minerals in one pack, suited as the starting medium for seed culture and batch fermentation; L-Boost is the lipid-phase fed-batch supplement, added after nitrogen limitation is triggered to drive lipid and DHA accumulation. Plants with their own carbon and salt formulation can switch only the nitrogen source to N-Core; to skip in-house blending and get a process running steadily, use M-Complete; once the growth phase is stable and the goal is higher lipid yield, add L-Boost in the second stage. Each can be used alone or combined into the full workflow. 01Which strains is AlgaPro suitable for?
It is designed primarily for heterotrophic fermentation of thraustochytrids such as Schizochytrium and Aurantiochytrium, producing DHA algal oil, microbial oils and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) feedstock. Other microalgae that grow heterotrophically on organic carbon, such as heterotrophically cultured Chlorella and Crypthecodinium cohnii, are also promising candidates; confirm with a small sample trial first.
02Do all three have to be used together?
No. N-Core can be used on its own as the nitrogen source with a plant's own carbon and salts; M-Complete can be used on its own as a complete medium; L-Boost is fed during the lipid phase after a growth phase run on N-Core, M-Complete or an in-house medium. Combining all three gives the full workflow, but you can start by replacing whichever stage needs the most improvement.
03When is L-Boost added?
After the growth phase, once nitrogen in the broth is exhausted and nitrogen limitation is triggered, feed it in portions or continuously; this is when cells redirect carbon flux into lipid and DHA synthesis. Timing and dose depend on the strain, the fermenter and the target lipid profile; usage guidance is supplied with the product, and we can refine it with you from your trial data.
04What is the difference between #1 and #2?
#1 and #2 are two versions of the same product; the formulations are proprietary and not disclosed. Tell us the strain, culture mode and target product when you request a quote or samples and we will recommend a version, or supply both as samples for a side-by-side comparison.
05Can it scale from the lab to production?
Yes. The 500 g pack suits shake-flask and small fermenter trials, and the 5 kg and 25 kg packs serve pilot and production scale; every pack size is the same formulation, so no change of material is needed when scaling up. Production customers who need steady long-term supply can share their annual volume when requesting a quote and we will plan production and lead times accordingly.
06Is the formulation disclosed? Can it be adjusted for our strain?
AlgaPro is STBIO's proprietary formulation and its composition is not disclosed, but specification sheets, COA and usage guidance are provided, and technical discussion is available under NDA. If your strain or process has particular needs, the existing formulation can be adjusted, starting with a sample trial.
