Overview
MR-VP Medium (glucose phosphate broth) is the shared broth for the methyl red and Voges-Proskauer tests: glucose is metabolised to mixed acids or to acetoin by different pathways, and after incubation the culture is split, one tube receiving methyl red to show whether the pH has fallen below 4.4 and the other α-naphthol and potassium hydroxide to reveal acetoin as a red colour. E. coli is MR positive and VP negative; Enterobacter and Klebsiella are the reverse. Specified by the Taiwan FDA E. coli, Listeria and V. parahaemolyticus methods. Food-grade raw materials, Halal certified.
What biochemical identification media are for
Biochemical identification media reveal whether a strain can use a particular substrate, read through colour change, gas production, or a zone of clearing. They remain the basis of conventional identification and confirmatory quality control. Each medium covers one characteristic, so several are normally read together alongside known positive and negative control strains.
