Overview
SIM Medium reads three characteristics in one tube: a semi-solid medium inoculated by stab, in which hydrogen sulfide producers blacken along the stab line, indole is revealed by adding Kovacs reagent after incubation (red ring), and motile strains spread out from the stab and cloud the medium. Typical Salmonella are H2S positive, indole negative and motile; E. coli is indole positive and H2S negative, making it one of the most used rapid identification tubes for enteric isolates.
