How is a Halal-certified culture medium different from the standard version?

Same formulation, different sourcing and process

A Halal version uses the same standard formulation and delivers the same performance. The differences are:

  • Animal-derived raw materials. No porcine components; bovine or ovine peptones and extracts must come from animals slaughtered according to Islamic law, with the supplier's Halal certificate on file.
  • Enzymes and processing aids. Hydrolysis enzymes and in-process aids must also comply; the usual approach is microbial-origin enzymes.
  • Cross-contamination control. Production lines, cleaning and storage must demonstrate separation from non-Halal materials.
  • Audit and certificate. A certification body audits regularly; the certificate lists the covered products and its validity period.

How to identify

Our Halal versions carry an H suffix in the product code and a Halal mark on the product page. The certificate and the covered product list are on the Certifications page.

Who needs it

Manufacturers of food, supplements and fermented products exporting to Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East and similar markets, and contract manufacturers who must document Halal raw materials to their customers. Pharmaceutical and testing laboratories without this requirement can use the standard versions.

Common questions

  • Is the Halal version more expensive? Restricted sourcing, documentation and audits add cost, so prices are usually slightly higher.
  • What happens during certificate renewal? The previous certificate remains valid during the renewal period; we post the latest certificate and validity on the Certifications page.
